Chiropractic in Greenfield WI
A chiropractic adjustment, sometimes called spinal manipulation, is the use of the hands or a small tool in order to produce a small movement of vertebrae in the spine. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae that have moved out of place for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activity to trauma such as a car accident. The doctors use a precise motion with just the right amount of speed and force, as well as a specific direction, to safely guide the vertebrae back into place.
When these vertebrae are out of place, it has a negative overall effect on the musculoskeletal system and nervous system. The signs and symptoms of misalignments may be subtle at first, but the body is not performing at its best when this happens.
The goals of chiropractic adjustments are:
- to restore joint motion, whether in the neck, back, or an extremity (like the knee or wrist)
- to decrease muscle tension caused by improper body mechanics
- to improve posture and center of gravity
- to decrease symptoms of dysfunction including pain, inflammation/swelling, and muscle spasm
- to relieve irritation in the nervous system
Most adjustments are not painful, and they often provide some immediate relief. You may hear a noise that sounds like you’re cracking your knuckles; this is referred to as joint cavitation. It is the release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint and is neither good nor bad.
Overall, adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level. When the body is in alignment, the body is able to respond and perform as it was designed to.
